Excerpt
“What do you mean, within reason?” Rex asked, curious and a little weary about the caveat.
“The contract is not in his favor. It specifies that the use of safewords is at your discretion. Anything that causes lasting harm - maiming, scars, loss of function - will incur penalties that are predetermined in the contract.”
“He agreed to that?” Rex asked, a little incredulous. He had no desire whatsoever to do anything that would cause that kind of damage.
“He’s quite desperate. He feels that not doing this would be letting his family down.”
Rex grinned. He’d need to meet the boy first, but that was just a formality. Miranda knew him well, and he had no doubt that the boy would be perfect.
“Is he gay?” he asked, suddenly realizing that Cody might not even be interested in men. The idea sent a shiver of arousal down his spine. Taking someone so reluctant yet technically willing… it was unexpectedly thrilling.
“Yes, but he’s not out of the closet. I didn’t get the impression he has much experience with men at all.”

Merciless and unapologetic, D.J. Heart leads us through the story of Rex, a billionaire who signs a desperate young man up for a year of service doing anything–and I do mean anything–he wants. Rex decides he wants a puppy, and his Chief of Security is more than happy to train Cody to the task of pleasing his master. Max is sadistic, something his employer enjoys more than a little, and he subjects Cody to more and more extreme forms of puppy play as the collection continues. The pace continues to build, and every time Rex starts to get a little restless–and even sometimes before–Max brings in another dynamic for him to play with. He eventually goes too far for Cody. I was relieved, admittedly, when both Rex (and Heart) backed off; we got a breather in the next chapter after 'Hold Your Breath,' so to speak, as Cody recovers and Rex considers his future with the same glimmers of humanity we’ve seen of him throughout the book. The rest of the book indulges in pony play and to my disturbed mind, left me feeling like it lightened up a good bit. (If, you know, any of this content could be considered light.)
In the end, this ended almost as–dare I say it?–at the very least a “happily for now” feeling. I think Heart could do more with these characters if he chose to, and I liked the open nature of the end.
Tl;dr version: Light on the plot, heavy on the tropes, extremely hot. Heed the warnings, but if they're your thing, this is a must-read.

The Billionaire Puppy The Complete Collection edition by DJ Heart Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Love it. Rex, Max and Brick (and the two "pony studs") are over the top, totally unrealistic and very, very hot. I loved reading about all the ways Cody was put through his paces, used and made to suffer. I liked that Rex kind of wanted Cody to be there of his own free will at the end, though I can't believe that Cody doesn't understand that Brick and the pony dudes are less than willing participants. When you really think about it, this is actually very dark and Rex and Max are monsters. Still, totally did it for me.
Dub-con and non-con galore. Rotten people doing rotten things and the victims end up enjoying it. Don't expect anything approximating real life with what is endurable physically or emotionally. That said, well written for the genre and hot if your kinks lean that way. So my five stars reflect that, not any comparison with other types of reads.
On a personal level I enjoy a bit of revenge so was hoping that Brick and possibly Diablo and Cody would find a way to turn the tables, at least for an extended vignette. Reading Max and Rex experiencing some of what they've handed out would be enjoyable. Not that I'd expect character growth. Just a little more fun.
But fine as it is.
I agree with the other reviewers that this is dark, but unlike them I liked it. Rex and Max (and Brick) are twisted and actually kind f evil, but as a fantasy it works. It's not safe sane and consensual, but then again I wouldn't want it to be. That's not the point of a series like this. The bondage, puppy play and focus on leather and muscle is really hot, and I really like how it ended.
I've read some of d.j.hearts other books, and this was quite a bit more extreme than the alpha omega books. Those have actual stories and are much sweeter, whereas here the only real focus is the action.
This book other than a few instances read like a horror story. The concept of safe, sane, and consensual is mostly foreign to this story. The scenes are often taken so far to the extreme that permanent harm could result in real life. There is a strong vibe that criminals deserve what they get and their consent isn't required. This book is not for the squeamish or faint of heart.
First the book itself If you like listening to music that only uses two or three notes over and over then you'll like this effort. Rex "buys" a puppy but is clueless and busy so he gives him to someone else. Max is brought in to train the puppy but gives him to someone else. Why bother? This genre is full of opportunity to flesh out motives and reactions and power transfers. This was just boring after the 10th "plug" sequence. The only really interesting character is Brick. I'd like to hear his backstory. Heart is one of my favorite writers but he missed the mark on this one.
Secondly... I lived on the periphery of this life-style myself so believe me when I say "this is all someone's dark misguided fantasy". Maybe that's why I didn't like it. I've seen wannabe's playing at Dom who didn't have a clue and it never turns into a love story at the end.
If you are looking for a feel good BDSM romance this is NOT YOUR BOOK. This is dark, twisted, and depraved. However - if you have a hankering for all sorts of kinkery - this is your book. Dub-Con (it's not truly non-con) for sure - and it goes to places those folks looking for MM Romance might not like. I myself like to wave my freak flag very very high - like Mt. Everest High. This is one I've returned to many (MANY) times. It's just awesome - hot and incredibly erotic for the right audience. It's a fantasy folks. Mine tend to fall in this camp - can't say as if I ever had any with glass slippers and a prince. To each their own. My prince has whips and chains LOL.
